The Matchless Cool Box was offered as a complimentary design to the Matchless Hot Box which was a Tube OD / Boost box. Circa 1996.
The Cool Box is designed to cleanly boost the signal while adding a slight amount of tube compression.
Plugged in before any clean amplifier will yield warmer tone & a more dynamic response for picking articulation.
When the Cool Box is used for tracking Bass guitar into a mic pre / DAW set up, a rather warm "ribbon mic" type effect is pleasantly noticeable in small increments.
Please note this runs on mains voltage at 110-120 VAC and has an American plug, therefore in the UK you will need a step-down transformer.
